This tool is one of the components of the AI4CYBER project, funded by the European Union. Our Multi-Perspective Explainability Tool is designed to shed light on the inner workings of AI models, particularly those used to detect cyberthreats. 

Unveiling the Black Box 

AI models, especially those high-performing ones, often operate like a “black box”—data goes in, decisions come out, but the reasoning behind those decisions remains hidden. This can be a bit unsettling, especially when AI is used to make critical decisions. Enter our TRUST4AI.XAI explainability tool, equipped with a user-friendly dashboard that demystifies these black-box models. 

How Does It Work? 

Imagine you are a cybersecurity expert trying to understand why an AI model flagged a particular network activity as suspicious. Our tool allows you to select specific data samples and apply various explainability methods to see the decision-making process from different angles. It’s like having multiple lenses to view the same scene, each offering a unique perspective and a deeper understanding. 

Key Features 

Our tool incorporates a variety of state-of-the-art explanation techniques, both ‘Local’ and ‘Global’, each offering a different way to interpret AI decisions. Here’s a sneak peek at what you can expect: 

Shapley Additive Explanations (SHAP): This technique assigns a value to each feature to show its contribution to the final decision. It’s like giving credit where it’s due. 

Diverse Counterfactual Explanations (DICE): This method generates hypothetical scenarios to show what changes would lead to different outcomes. It’s a bit like playing “what if” with the AI model.  

Anchors Explanations: Think of these as “if-then” rules that highlight specific conditions under which the model makes a particular decision. It’s like understanding the rules of a game. 

Local Interpretable Model-Agnostic Explanations (LIME): LIME simplifies the model around a specific data point, making it easier to see why a particular decision was made. 

Decision Trees: A surrogate approach to build a visual representation that breaks down decisions into a tree of choices and consequences, making the logic behind the decisions clear and straightforward. 

And that’s just the beginning! Our tool also includes methods like Accumulated Local Effects (ALE), Partial Dependence Plots (PDP), Individual Conditional Expectation (ICE), Permutation Feature Importance (PFI), and RuleFit. Each method offers a unique way to look at and understand the AI’s decisions.
